HITORI
Hitori is a great new puzzle and here at Indigo Puzzles we can't get enough of them. Like Sudoku, it's easy to learn the rules but deviously tricky, and it's just as addictive. Best of all, it's name actually means "Let me alone", so when people interrupt you while you're trying to solve one and ask what you're doing, you can shout "Hitori! Hitori!" and no one will know what you mean (though they may well go away).
What is it, then?
This is a Hitori board, in its before and after states:

![]() ...Solved! |
With Hitori, you're given a grid of numbers and you have to fill in some of them based on the Rules. The rules are:
- No two numbers the same on any row or column
- No two filled-in squares next to each other
- When solved, all the empty squares must be joined together. The joins can be left, right, up or down (diagonals don't count)
Hitori is simple to pick up, and is normally played on an 8x8 grid although of course this can change. At Indigo Puzzles we have a free Hitori puzzle every day, ranging from Delicious to Atrocious; the Atrocious is 12x12 and not for the faint-hearted!
Ok, so what do I do, then?
Good news! Our new Hitori Assistant can guide you through every step of solving a Hitori board from beginning to end, with logical advice to help you learn how to solve them yourself.
Better yet, we've made up a quick tutorial for you to see for yourself. Give it a try!
